One of the things that we face when we are sewing is the boring repetition of reusing the same pattern over and over again.
One solution is to get our creative juices flowing and come up with finishing touches that are an update or change things up a bit from one item to another.
Here I made the same dress twice. On one, I did a traditional gathered ruffle and because I wanted to shorten it a bit, I added pleats in the base of the skirt.
On the other dress, I cut a 3"wide strip that was double the measurement of the entire base of the skirt (the circumfrence of the skirt). I sewed the right sides together and took a couple hours while watching TV and watching the girls play to pull the fabric through to create a sash. I took that and folded it into 4ths and pinned each 4th to 1 quarter of the skirt (front center, right side, back center, and left side) to make sure I had it all equal. I then folded and stitched all of the way around the skirt. I'm in love with this look!!!
Times might be hard but that doesn't mean we can't make things really cute and trendy!
